The E17 Neighbourly Quilt: Have you started your patch?

Significant Seams, with partnership from:

  • Penny Fielding’s Beautiful Interiors,
  • the E17 Designers Membership Network
  • the E17 Art Trail,
  • The Mill Community Centre, and
  • the High Street Ward Forum,

The Community Quilt Programme will lead a community project to create of a patchwork quilt celebrating Walthamstow , good citizenship and “neighborliness.”

This map quilt, the first of the Significant Seams Community Quilt Programme, was created in 2011. During 7 events in the E17 Art Trail, area residents added gold fingerprints to mark their home on the map. The quilt is now on an exhibition touring Walthamstow.

Area residents are being asked to represent the idea of neighborliness or something they love about
Walthamstow on a fabric square that will become part of the quilt. They will be able to use any number of textile traditions or practices, and learn new ones from one of a number of workshops we will be hosting (minimum 6, a possible 20).

The planned quilt will feature a minimum of 39 patches, a target of 64, and has significant upwards potential. Patches will be created by: area artists, craft clubs, community organisations , children, and other residents.

This Quilt will be created from volunteer participation, positivity, creativity, and community . It will be coordinated by Significant Seams and its partners. Costs will be funded by sponsorship support from good citizen businesses and organisations, ward funding, and sales of community quilt sewing kits.
