Phew – sorry we’ve gone a bit quiet over here. We’ve had a busy week-ish of making, doing paperwork, and sorting out the lovely Neighbourly Quilt patches as they arrive. We’ve now had a number of workshops with the Awesome Asian women’s group at the Mill. We also had some great sessions with toddlers and teens (not at the same time) at the Limes, and some friendly sessions at the Hub.
With ten days left until the patch deadline we have exceeded our minimum patch goal, but are a long way from the max. We also don’t yet have the desired balance between adults and kids patches, so we want your contribution! We are hugely grateful to all of those who have contributed already – or let us know about the patch you are working on. We are really looking forward to seeing the completed creations. We’re at the Hub Tuesday through Saturday to receive them – or bring them our stall at The E17 Designers Market this Friday evening at the Asian Centre in the Village. Also, there is still time for sponsors to come on board and be part of the Neighbourly Quilt project – please do contact us. Opportunities start at just £50. Your contribution is critical in helping us delivering our range of community building and gently therapeutic programmes.
We’ve also been gearing up for the Jubilympic season with test bunting – we now have both knitted and stitched versions available as inspiration – and offer our first FREE bunting workshop for Wood Street Ward residents TODAY (5 May) from 3:30-4:30 (all welcome, donations appreciated!). We’ll be keeping all the bunting made as Wood Street Ward official “community” bunting – and it will be available/used for a variety of community events, including the Wood Street Market 50s themed Jubilee on 2 June. Huge thanks to the Wood Street Ward forum for their support. Help us make quirky community bunting – no sewing experience required. Donations of fabric welcome, especially red, white and blue, and/or doilies and lace!
We also have decided to make a special offer to all the groups organising other Jubilympic street parties – bring a group of four – six party planners to the Hub for a bunting making & planning party for £30. We’ll get you all going on your bunting – providing the sewing machines and any instruction you need. You will need to bring your own fabric and threads, but we’ll provide the machines, scissors, cutting mats, etc and offer free tuition and sewing machine support for your group. (In this scenario you get to keep the bunting!) We think the street parties are a fabulous opportunity for a spot of community building so want to help!
Finally in case you don’t know, a number of neighbourhoods have started street party planning groups on Facebook. If you want to be involved in one, but don’t know who is organising one – or if they are being organised in your area, we recommend searching there and/or contacting your local councillor. Alternately feel free to contact us. We’ll be happy to try to contact you to groups in your area.
